Accessibility Information

Swinburne is continually committed to improving accessibility of our websites. We currently have implemented key design elements, which will aid in allowing all visitors to have access to Swinbuirne websites, these include:

Text
  • Accesskeys have been used to create keyboard shortcuts for link elements. These are based on the UK goverment accesskeys system.
  • Alt S allows users to jump over navigation links and go straight to content
  • Alt 0 links to accesskey details and accessiblity information
  • Alt 1 links to the Swinburne homepage
  • Alt 4 links to the Swinburne search page
  • Alt 8 links to the terms and conditions of use for the Swinburne web site
  • Alt 9 links to a feedback form
  • This site is optimized for a 1024 x 768 screen resolution. Users with visual impairments should try setting their screen resolution to 800 x 600.
  • The ability to change the text size of the pages is located at the bottom of each page
  • Internet Explorer users who have difficulty reading reading links should click on 'Tools', then 'Internet Options...', then 'Accessibility...' and under Formating select 'Ignore colors specified on Web pages'. Then click 'OK' and then 'OK' again.

Images

We have used a blank alt attribute where images are used only for layout or decorative purposes. Text equivalents have been provided where images contain content.


Tables

Tables have been used for page layout of the websites. Summaries are provided for tables. Layout tables have summaries stating they are layout tables.


Cascading Style Sheets

Cascading Style Sheets have been implemented in the Swinburne website. Users are able to turn off or override our styles and still be able to read the page content


Form Labels

Labels have been used for the input elements in forms.
