Program Information - CPA Australia
Requirements for CPA status
Participants will need to be an Associate Member of CPA Australia. To qualify for this, you need to have a recognised undergraduate degree and a postgraduate conversion degree such as the Master of International Accounting (MIntA), which is fully accredited by CPA Australia. The Associate (ASA) qualification after your name shows you have achieved an accredited degree with a major in accounting, and is a step in your progress to CPA status.
Structure of the CPA Program
The CPA program will provide you with an understanding of the knowledge and skills you need as an accountant and financial professional. In addition, the course will give you:
- an appreciation of the breadth of accounting and an opportunity to expand your knowledge in areas of special interest
- the opportunity to further develop your analytical skills as they relate to accountancy and finance
- an understanding of the responsibilities and obligations of a member of the profession
Attaining CPA Status
To qualify for CPA status you will need to meet the following criteria:
- be an Associate of CPA Australia
- sucessfully complete the CPA Program (6 subjects);
- have 3 years mentored practical experience in accounting, banking or finance work

Progressing through the CPA Program and attaining CPA status opens up many windows of opportunity in industry and commerce, public practice, the government sector and other areas at an international level.
