An introductory letter from the editor.

The aim of this list is the promotion of the world wide web communication between students and scientists. We are planning to concentrate, in particular, on the following aspects:
  • To create channels for an active exchange of information and scientific research work by using the internet: E-mail and WWW.
  • To distribute information about ongoing research in various subjects of solid state physics.
  • To create conditions for researches for improvement of contacts between them.
  • To establish a channel for a public discussion, within the scientific community, of social aspects of scientific work.
  • To create a team of enthusiasts willing to cooperate on the development of WWW pages devoted to various aspects of physics, with emphasis on educational materials, recent research results and materials concerning the basic phenomenology of physical phenomena.

In order to achieve these plans, we have established arbitrarily the following rules, which are subject to changes, modifications and improvements:

  1. The list is owned by the editor, Zbigniew Koziol. It is created and distributed with the technical support of WebExperts Inc.
  2. The list is moderated. It is open, however, for a broad range of subjects.
  3. A large portion of the materials will be published on WWW.
  4. This is not the final set of rules governing the functioning of Virtual Physics.

We are asking for submission of the following materials:

  • letters and discussions relevant to the problems of the scientific community;
  • brief announcements of research results (not more than around 1000 words);
  • critical comments on the scientific results published elsewhere;
  • reviews of books and scientific research works, especially if concerning aspects understandable for a broad audience;
  • critical reviews from other physics WWW sites, suggestions and ideas for the development of internet communication between the scientific community and students involved in research activity;
  • students articles for a public evaluation by specialists;
  • articles and review information and critics concerning the use of the internet for communication between the scientific community;
  • announcements about jobs opening.

There are a few tens of e-mail addresses on the distribution list, at this moment. We will appreciate your help in informing other potential subscribers about this list.

We are kindly asking for a support, for comments, criticism, for contributing materials, and for your active participation in this project. Everyone willing to devote his/her time and work is welcome to join the editorial board.

Sincerely yours,
Zbigniew Koziol
The Editor of Virtual Physics.
