Careers and Employment

 

 
  Voluntary work placements enable Swinburne University of Technology students working individually and/or in groups to use their transferable skills to undertake projects and tasks for business and industry, community organisations and government departments.

Issues
bullet The recommended time is between 40 to 80 hours per semester. However individual cases may be negotiated by agreement between Emma O'Connell, Co-ordinator and the host organisation.
 
  bullet The work must be completed by the student in commercial premises.
  bullet Home-based business ventures are not eligible for this program.
 
 
Some examples
of
work projects
which
may
be undertaken

bullet
Updating, collating and editing items and articles for newsletters and business literature
 
bullet Evaluating services and writing articles
bullet Research specific subjects/products/prospective customers, which may involve liaising with several different stakeholders
 
bullet Working on creation and maintenance of websites
bullet Any IT related projects
bullet Completing market research which is aimed at understanding the behaviour of customers when purchasing certain products or services
 
 
 
What type
of
work
do the
students
provide?

Workplace projects can be shaped around any aspect of service that our student skills bank is able to provide:

| research and analysis | investigating production problems | developing information literature | undertaking social research | basic web preparation and maintenance | creating databases | evaluating information | report writing | market research | working in special needs groups | any other tasks requiring above-average written and oral communication skills |

Employers to complete and submit form for project approval.

Once approved, the project is advertised on SwinEmploy and students apply directly to employer.

Once employer selects the student, employer must complete and return the form in order for the student to be covered under the university insurance program. A copy of the Certificate of Currency will be sent to employers once the completed Host Organisation form is received.
