The National Institute for Design Research (NIDR) is committed to researching design as a unique form of human activity. All graduates of a Research Higher Degrees Programs should have the ability to pursue independent research – including abilities in planning, problem solving, decision making and an appreciation of the ethical conduct of research; the ability to assemble, analyse and evaluate existing data and knowledge; a spirit of enquiry and independent thinking; the ability to work to deadlines; mastery of their discipline(s) – generic as well as an in-depth knowledge of their research topic; the ability to work cooperatively and productively in teams – including communication skills; the ability to innovate – seeking new solutions to both new and old problems.
