Course Description

The program covers the fundamental concepts and 'big questions' of modern astronomy, in order to equip students with a good overall understanding of astronomy.

Aims and Objectives

The aim of the Master course is to provide a scope for more specialist study in astronomy, plus opportunities for major project work, while still maintaining an emphasis on learning about the fundamental concepts and questions of astronomy.

Entrance Requirements

A degree from a recognised tertiary institution or approved equivalent.

Applicants not having completed a degree and who have relevant exoerience may be admitted to the Masters after successfully completing the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma.

Students are expected to be computer literate and have internet access outside of Swinburne.

Program Structure

The Master of Science (Astronomy) involves the completion of 12 subjects. Students undertake studies via Internet, newsgroup discussions and assignments and project work.

Entry is possible in both semester 1 (February) and Semester 2 (July).
