Business Information Systems

Information systems (composed of people, information, ICT, and business processes) are positions widely encorporated across modern organisations, and industry. Graduate employment opportunities are high for IS graduates who are well versed in business concepts and are able to manage information systems ensuring organisational goals and objectives are achieved. IS graduates will require strong technical knowledge and skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and good interpersonal communication skills. IS professionals need to have a good appreciation of the role of IT in driving innovation in business, and be able to work in collaborative, diverse teams throughout business units and across organisations.

IS professionals also take a lead role in sourcing the required ICT solution, in implementing IT systems in organisations, in managing the related changes to processes and work flow, and in training users in the use of new systems. IS graduates often take a truly cross-functional view of organisations and problems, and how ICT can be deployed to improve situations. A degree in Business Information Systems is about communication, collaboration and finding creative solutions to business problems. What could be more interesting and satisfying than that?.

ICT Success Story

Bachelor of Business Information Systems

My favourite VCE unit was my VET choice, (Certificate III in IT) and I developed a strong interest in information systems while studying the program.

I learnt more about the Bachelor of Business Information Systems at Swinburne’s Open Day, and this confirmed my decision to study the program. My studies this year have been both inspiring and challenging.

I recently applied and was successful for the ‘ANZ Women in ICT Scholarship’. ANZ, as part of the scholarship, have offered me generous financial support as well as industry-based learning and graduate opportunities with the banking group.

I am looking forward to the future and feel confident that my career goal as a Systems Analyst will soon be a reality.

Career Opportunities

Graduates are likely to pursue careers in business and systems analysis, business process analyst, business requirements analyst, project management, IS/IT consultant, business relationship manager, business development manager, and when you have gained experience, as an IT Director and CIO
