Internship Project Unit (HIT9326)

Overview

The Internship Project Unit (HIT9326) is a final semester unit in the Master of Information Technology,Master of Information Technology (Professional Computing), Master of Technology (IT) and Master of Science (Network Systems) with a value of 12.5 credit points. Whilst the unit involves regular weekly classroom activities, part of the project activity will be undertaken at an industry site for 2 days per week over the semester.

The Internship Project aims to assist you to further develop your professional and personal skills and encourage you to apply practical skills and theoretical knowledge in an IT industry context. While undertaking the unit you will keep a reflective journal and undertake a presentation on completion of the Unit.

Students will participate in a wide range of organisational projects. Project areas include: system design and development, research and development, web development, business analysis, testing and user liaison.

Entry Requirements

Students enrolling in the Internship Project Unit will be expected to possess strong communication skills as well as having technical and theoretical knowledge applicable to the IT industry.  If you are wishing to enrol in this unit you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • Be in your final semester of the Master of Information Technology (I091), Master of Technology (Information Technology) (I061), Master of Science (Network Systems) (S069) or Master of Information Technology (Professional Computing) (I0901)
  • Maintained a credit average in your Masters program
  • Have completed the 4-day Professional Employment Program (PEP) run by the Faculty of ICT
  • Submit a formal application to undertake an interview, which will assess your suitability and motivation for the Unit.
  • Be available to undertake an interview with the host organisation in the 2 weeks prior to commencing next semester.

 

Professional Employment Program

Student’s undertaking the Internship Unit will need to first complete a 4-day Professional Employment Program which aims to create a solid understanding of the IT industry in Australia offering methodologies and stages to being recruited by an organisation.
