Robotics and Non-Contact Inspection Group

Welcome to the Robotics and Non-Contact Inspection Group at Swinburne University of Technology.
The Robotics and Non-Contact Inspection Group comprises post-graduate and post-doctoral research engineers involved in many research programs in the area of non-contact, industrial-based inspection. The group is also involved with the teaching of both practical and theoretical aspects of many technologies associated with robotics and non-contact inspection at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.

Background

This group has been in existence since 1991 as part of the Industrial Research Institute Swinburne, now part of the Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences, Swinburne University of Technology, and is located at 533-545 Burwood Road, Hawthorn, Australia.

Research Undertaken in the Robotics and Non-Contact Inspection Group

Robotics and Non-Contact Inspection research is directed towards the development of on-line, real-time systems for defect detection as well as shape and colour measurement for a variety of industrial products. The members of the Robotics and Non-Contact Inspection research group consist of academics, post-doctoral researchers, engineers and scientists who work primarily on industry based projects. These projects involve light-scatter, machine vision, capacitive sensing and ultrasonic techniques, and relate to a variety of products ranging from paper and plastics to metals. Follow these links to obtain more information on current and recent research projects in this group. It can be seen that the research includes the successful application of novel approaches to solve industrial inspection problems.

Current research includes both ARC and CRC-based research programs in collaboration with partners such as:

Outcomes

There have been many successful projects undertaken through this group with product commercialisation, international publications and patents.
