Linking to articles in Factiva

  • Caution

    Factiva indexes both free and subscribed resources. As links to free resources are not persistent, we recommend that you do not link to free resources. There is a limit of 5 simultaneous users for Factiva. If an article is available in another newspaper database, we recommend that you use the other database. See the Newspapers Subject Starter Guide for other databases you can use to link to newspaper articles.

You must be on campus to create the persistent link.

  1. Go to Factiva

  2. Locate the article, go to the full record by clicking on the title.

  3. Locate the Document number at the end of the article.
    For example: Document AUSTLN0020031217dzci0001o

  4. Copy the string after the word Document.
    For example: AUSTLN0020031217dzci0001o

  5. Insert the following text immediately before the document number:
    http://ezproxy.lib.swin.edu.au/login?url=http://global.factiva.com/en/du/article.asp?
    NAPC=S&AccessionNo=

  6. Now add the following text to the end of your URL:
    &xsid=S002t3fMDAn5DEu5DEmN9asMpMsOTVyMHn0YqYvMq382rbURUFBQUF
    BQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQQAA

Example

After adding the authentication string to the base URL and accession number you should have a link something like this:

http://ezproxy.lib.swin.edu.au/login?url=http://global.factiva.com/en/du/article.asp? NAPC=S&AccessionNo=AUSTLN0020031217dzci0001o&xsid=S002t3fMDAn5DEu 5DEmN9asMpMsOTVyMHn0YqYvMq382rbURUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQ UFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQQAA
