Inter-library loans

Place or Check request

What the inter-library loans service does:

  • Provides the Swinburne University research community with access to research literature not available at Swinburne
  • Provides reciprocal access to Swinburne's library collections for the wider community, primarily through partner libraries in the national and international inter-library loan network.

Placing requests

Tips on completing the inter-library Loan request form:

  • Search the Library and Google Scholar before making a request
  • Provide as much accurate bibliographic information as possible to assist staff to quickly locate the correct item
  • Use 'Notes' in the request form to send additional comments to staff e.g.: Your item is missing from the shelves despite being listed as available in Library search (in this example this will avoid the automatic cancellation of your request).
  • If you need your item urgently (most requests are filled within two weeks) please use the 'Need-by' field in the request form
  • If you are requesting an article, you must tick the copyright declaration box to submit the request

Managing your requests

Tips on keeping track of your requests

  • Have you updated/amended your EndNote library?
  • Does the request say complete, but you've not received it?
  • Is there an item listed, that you didn't request?

Information on checking your requests can be found here

For Swinburne staff and students

  • All requests must support or relate to current research and/or teaching at Swinburne.
  • Material will be obtained from within Australia and from overseas.
  • Some restrictions and/or charges apply to requests for material held in other university libraries in Melbourne, and to all requests by undergraduate and TAFE students.
  • Access to the inter-library loan service is suspended if you have overdue loans at Swinburne Library or are suspended from the CAVAL Reciprocal Borrowing Program.
