Making an Appointment for Clinical and Counselling Psychology Services

This page provides information to ease anxiety about making the first step in the therapeutic process by answering common questions about attending the Swinburne Psychology Clinic.
How to Make an Appointment with a Psychological Counsellor
Call the Psychology Clinic by phone on (03) 9214 8653. The receptionists, Pip and Barbra, will ask for your name, contact details and the times you would be able to attend an appointment.
- A counsellor from the Psychology Clinic will call you back to complete an assessment over the phone. This information will be used to match you with an appropriate counsellor and to ensure the Clinic has the resources to best meet your needs.
- The Psychology Clinic Director will match you with a counsellor at the Clinic.
- The reception staff will call you back to arrange a time for your first appointment. It is expected that you will be seen by a counsellor within a week of first contacting the Clinic.
Payments for our Low-cost Psychological Services Consultation fees for psychological counselling are calculated on a sliding scale at a rate of $1.00 per hour for every $1,000 of family income. There is a minimum fee of $15 to a maximum of $60 per consultation and the initial appointment attracts a $10 administrative fee. Payments for psychological counselling appointments must be made by cash or cheque. Credit card payment can be made for the Psychology Clinic's group therapy programs, psychological assessments and professional development courses. These services have fixed prices and do not operate on a sliding scale. Medical Referrals The Psychology Clinic accepts self-referrals from individuals as well as referrals from health professionals. Our services can be accessed independently or as an adjunct to other pharmacological and psychological treatments by all members of the community. Doctor referrals are only required for the Psychology Clinic's STOP therapy program for the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Non-English Speaking Clients
