Phillip Island Nature Parks
Background
Since 2005, the National Centre for Sustainability (NCS) at Swinburne has worked closely with Phillip Island Nature Parks (PINP) to develop and implement strategies to build the capacity of the Phillip Island Nature Parks to become the world leader in sustainable parks management. To date the NCS has provided:
- strategic reviews of the Park’s Management Plan
- professional development workshops for all staff
- sustainability design brief for the re-development of the Koala Conservation Centre
- a series of sustainability policies and procedures tailored for each Park department
- accredited training to over 40 staff through tailored “Green Office Program”
- a greenhouse emission inventory and report for the organisation
- an eco-footrpinting calculation
- a carbon sequestration study
- a sustainability action plan for the Park as a whole
Project status
The NCS will be working on an ongoing basis with PINP to develop the capability and capacity of its staff through accredited sustainability training tailored the organisation’s needs.
