Graduate Certificate in Building Energy Analysis (non-residential) for Professionals
Licensing available from Sustainability Victoria in 2009
This project is being lead by the Clean Energy Council in partnership with Swinburne’s National Centre for Sustainability and RMIT Centre for Design.
The course is aimed at architects, engineers, planners, etc. where there is a recognised gap in available training.
The project includes wide consultation with specialists, development of four units of competency, course accreditation with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, the development of training resources, and delivery of pilot training with evaluations.
Funding provided by the National Framework for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Victoria, with Sustainability Victoria retaining copyright ownership.
Graduate Certificate in Teaching in Sustainability

This qualification will provide teachers and sustainability specialists with a pathway to a qualification in education for sustainability which will focus on the ‘how’ to teach sustainability, building on widespread understandings about the importance of transformative principles underpinning sustainable practice.

Diploma of Carbon Management for Professionals

The development of this new course is building on the competencies within the Carbon Accounting short course and will extend capability within industry (beyond the capacity to measure and quantify their emissions) to strategically implement and manage strategies to meet the challenges of a carbon constrained economy.
It will include skills in carbon accounting, carbon reduction assessment, carbon economics, carbon law, sequestration accounting and product footprinting.
Re-accreditation of Graduate Certificate in Sustainability
Available 2010
The accreditation of the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability is valid until 2010; consequently, the course is undergoing a rigorous re-accreditation process in 2009.
Graduate Certificate in Energy Efficiency for Facility Managers
Available 2009
Swinburne’s National Centre for Sustainability led an industry based team, including the Facility Management Association of Australia, an industry specialist association and a private specialist RTO, to develop an accredited energy efficiency course and an industry accreditation scheme for facility managers.
The project included consultation with industry to determine priorities, identify key skills (competency) needs, the development and accreditation of four units of competency, development of resources for two of the units, and undertook and evaluated interstate pilots (face to face and online). Funding provided by the National Framework for Energy Efficiency, accredited by Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, with Sustainability Victoria retaining copyright ownership.
Short Courses
Sustainable Reporting in Practice
Available Now
This project includes the development of a two-day short course covering international reporting frameworks and their application to best meet organisational needs.
Participants will be mentored by leading industry experts in the area of sustainability reporting and assurance. The activity-based sessions will focus on the practical application of reporting principles to a number of scenarios.
Battery Electric Vehicles
Available 2010
The first Australian and publicly accredited short courses developed for the retrofitting of conventional fuel injection vehicles to battery electric vehicles (BEV) and for the servicing of BEVs.
This collaborative project between Swinburne University’s National Centre for Sustainability and the School of Engineering with funding and support provided by the Victorian Department of Innovation, Industry, and Regional Development and Skills Victoria.
AuSSI Vic Professional Learning - Victorian and National Accreditation

Two projects for the AuSSI Vic = Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative, Victoria:
- Providing quality assurance for delivery of the existing short course in Education for Sustainability in schools, and
- Project managing accreditation of an AuSSI Vic professional learning course, which includes drafting units of competency to be the basis of the accredited course.
