When many nodes are linked together in consistent ways, they form a network. A network is an interconnected and interrelated group or system. The ideas in a hypertext system are in nodes which are interconnected by the associative links. This network of hypertext ideas may be constructed by the designer or the user to resemble the subject matter structure or the semantic network of the user.

This idea of a semantic network is different to the technological network we encounter in the WWW.

Semantic Network

A person's semantic network describes the organisation of knowledge in memory. That organisation is typically depicted graphically. Mind maps are examples of semantic networks. This site was built from a semantic network.
