Q.I have applied, now what?
A. Once you apply and you send in your Application fee, pass port size photo and copy of offer to Swinburne (if available), you will be sent acknowledgment of your application, please read this letter/e-mail carefully as it contains important information.
Q.I am in Year 12 and don't yet have a Swinburne offer - what do I do?
A. You send in your application with the Application Fee and passport size photo before the application due date. When you receive your VTAC offer letter you must fax it to our office on (03) 9214 5556 the day you receive it as offers will be made soon after the release of VTAC first round offers. Do not wait until you are enrolling as it is often too late at that stage.
Q.I am a deferred student - what do I do?
A. When you apply make sure you include evidence of deferment/VTAC offer.
Q. Do I have to sign a contract?
A. Yes. You do need to sign a contract. There are several options ranging from 18 to 50 weeks. Guests staying in visitor accommodation or short term over summer do not need to enter into an agreement.
Q. How much do I have to pay before I move in?
A. The amount differs depending on which option you choose and how long you stay. Before you move in you will receive an official offer that will include, 10-21 weeks rent, Security Deposit, Enrolment Fee, Telephone Service Fee and Social Club Fee. All of this has to be paid by the expiry date stated on your offer. * Students accepting the shorter 18 or 21 week contracts are required to make full payment at the outset. Following the initial payment, payments are made in 10, 12 or 14 week instalments. Please see the Fee Payment Schedule and Information Sheet.
Q. Do the fees include utilities?
A. Yes. The fees include electricity, gas and water.
Q. How do I pay the fees during my contract?
A. Fees may be paid at the Student Information Centre or the Residences Reception desk by cheque (Australian bank cheques only), eftpos or credit card (Visa, Mastercard).
Please note the University does not accept cash payments.
Q.Do I have to pay a Security Deposit?
A. Yes. Everyone must pay a security deposit when they first move in. It is fully refundable at the end of your stay provided that you pay all your bills and leave your room/apartment clean and tidy.
Q. Can I stay on at the end of my contract in December?
A. You may stay on after the end of your contract in December only if you have re-applied and been given a place for the following year.
Q. What services are available at the College?
A. At the College the services include; Continental breakfast each morning (incl. weekends and public holidays), cleaning services, linen is provided and laundered fortnightly, Resident Advisers around 24/7 to provide a helping hand.
Q. What is the difference between standard and deluxe apartments?
A. The standard apartments are single level apartments. The deluxe apartments are town-house style apartments, with the bedrooms, laundry and bathroom upstairs, and the lounge and kitchen downstairs.

A. Please see our ‘What should I Bring’ lists either Residential College or Student Apartments depending on where you are staying.
Q. Is there a telephone and internet connection in each bedroom?
A. There is a telephone and broadband internet connection in each room. Telephone and Internet is charged according to individual usage and is billed each month.
Q. Do you offer any scholarships?
A. Yes, we offer a number of scholarships to students residing in our Student Residences. Scholarship recipients can receive up to $2,000 a year in scholarship benefits. Applications for 2011 are now open! For information and an application form click here.
